What’s one book, movie, or TV show you could watch or read over and over again?

I could rewatch Succession for the rest of my life. I wish I could relive the experience of seeing it for the first time. It's truly iconic.

What’s a talent or hobby you wish you had time to pursue?

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become increasingly interested in art and would love to learn more about art history. I’ve been given some great video recommendations, but I keep putting it off, telling myself I’ll get to it once exams are over. One day, I’d love to be able to say something smart at a museum instead of just nodding.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

The first thing I do in the morning is write in my gratitude journal, and then I need music to start my day, usually whatever my current song fixation is. Depending on the day, I’ll listen to Pod Save America instead. I'm obsessed with that podcast.

Do you have a mantra or affirmation that keeps you grounded?

I’ve gotten more into affirmations and use a bunch of them. There are so many great ways to incorporate them that don’t feel forced. I made a playlist filled with songs that reflect the kind of music I imagine a higher version of myself would listen to. I also use a couple of affirmation apps—one (I Am) sends me new affirmations throughout the day, and the other (Activations) tailors them to specific tasks or goals.

What’s your favorite indulgence when you need a pick-me-up?

I wouldn’t really call this an indulgence, but whenever I’ve had a bad or stressful day, I’ve found that going to a bookstore really calms me down, something I discovered back in undergrad. I’ve always loved to read, and just being around books makes me feel comforted and strangely at home. I’m not even going with the intention to buy a book or thinking, oh, this will make me feel better, it’s just that when I’m not feeling great, my body naturally wants to head in that direction.

What’s your favorite season and why?

Fall. I love when the high heat of the summer ebbs away, but it is still sunny and warm, with a touch of crispness. It is wonderful weather to be outside - fall hikes through changing leaf colors are the best - and it is also a season that brings some amazing scents (bonfires and apple cider donuts are my favorite).

What’s a small, everyday thing that always brings you joy?

My dog loves cuddling with us in the morning - she hops up on the bed as we are waking up and snuggles in. She does it every morning like clockwork. It is reassuring and sweet, and her sweet Boxer head is the perfect weight to lay on our legs.

What’s a self-care habit you swear by?

I get monthly massages. I started doing this when a local massage place offered a healthcare worker discount and now I have found that it is really therapeutic. I find massages are both relaxing and rejuvenating - it helps me shift my focus and energy.

What’s a quality in others that you most admire?

I always admire when someone is a good listener and offers their full attention to what others are saying. I think it is easy to become distracted -- so when someone is really listening and responds thoughtfully, it makes a difference.

What’s your favorite way to unwind before bed?

Reading before bed is my favorite way to unwind. It almost doesn't matter what I read - as long as it is a physical book and not email, social media, or news. My favorite genre is historical fiction, but throw in elements of science fiction or fantasy and you have my ideal book. I very much appreciate something that shifts my focus and mindset.
