Nidhi Bhaskar
If you could design your dream home, what’s one must-have feature?
A full wall aquarium and/or a koi pond
Self care habit you swear by:
I have a few for this one!
- I always hydrate with a huge glass of green tea before going to bed after a night out.
- I don’t work while eating; meals are my time to pause and turn my mind off for a bit between tasks.
- I keep social media apps off my phone at baseline, and use the website or redownload/delete the app if I need access.
What’s one book, movie, or TV show you could watch or read over and over again?
Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse- I’ve read it more than 7 times and never has a book made me self-reflect as much as this one.
What’s your favorite healthy meal or snack?
Dates + Tahini! My favorite snack since I was a teenager :)
What’s a change you’ve made that’s had a big impact on your health?
Outside the hospital, I keep my phone on do not disturb 24/7 and I don’t keep screens in my bedroom. I have an analog alarm clock and leave my phone and computer in my living room before bed. I started doing this the year before I came to med school to try and decentralize the digital world in my life, and it has honestly done wonders for my mental health and sleep.
What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday morning?
Smoothie → workout class w/ friends → coffee and grocery run → long shower w/ audiobook in background
Dr. Edward Feller
What’s a random fact about you that most people don’t know?
Ultradistance running has been my lifelong passion. I’ve completed many 100 mile trail races, run the Grand Canyon loop and spent 2 months at altitude in the Himalayas on a medical research trip studying the effect of altitude on endurance-trained athletes.
What’s a habit or ritual you look forward to every day?
I love starting my day having breakfast and a walk with Oliver, my Golden Doodle puppy…the sheer joy that his presence brings.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever given yourself?
Win the next minute. At times, long-term aspirations of bucket lists or past defeats pale before the simplicity of “if not now, when?”
How do you stay consistent with your wellness habits when life gets busy?
I am fortunate to be resilient and not daunted by the inevitable temporary lapses.
What’s a self-care habit you swear by?
I exercise every day, love being outdoors and structure my days to accommodate physical fitness.
What do you believe to be your greatest accomplishment?
During 47 years at Brown, I’ve published manuscripts with more than 125 medical students, and continually interact with trainees who immeasurably enrich my life. I am thrilled that my son and daughter are physicians- both psychiatrists.
