Micheline Anderson, PhD, has been appointed as the Assistant Dean for Student Well-Being in the Division of Biology and Medicine. Dr. Anderson is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Her first day in this new role is Monday, January 5, 2026.
Dr. Anderson is a licensed clinical psychologist. Her clinical and scholarly work centers on supporting mental and physical health at critical developmental stages, with particular expertise in student mental health, well-being promotion, and the integration of evidence-based, culturally responsive practices within academic medical settings. She completed her doctoral training in clinical psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University, followed by internship and postdoctoral training at Brown, gaining further specialized expertise in stress, reproductive behavioral health, and mind–body approaches to well-being. Since 2023, Dr. Anderson has been a staff psychologist in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Women's Behavioral Medicine at Brown University Health.
Dr. Anderson brings extensive experience designing, implementing, and evaluating campus-based well-being initiatives informed by both clinical practice and research. Her scholarship examines resilience, stress physiology, mindfulness, and spirituality as protective factors for mental and physical health, with a focus on emerging adult and perinatal populations. She has published widely on student well-being and preventive interventions, and her work has directly informed the development of inclusive, evidence-based wellness programming in rigorous academic environments. In addition to her research, Dr. Anderson has held leadership and service roles focused on student support, faculty and trainee mentorship, and institutional well-being initiatives. Notably, she co-directed the first Ivy League Spirit–Mind–Body wellness center, founded a disability and chronic illness affinity group for faculty and trainees, and has contributed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. In her role as assistant dean, Dr. Anderson is deeply committed to fostering academic cultures and systems that support medical students’ academic success, personal growth, and holistic well-being.
The assistant dean supports a culture of well-being within the Medical School, underscoring the core philosophy that mental, physical, emotional, and social well-being is essential to complete health and the ability to care for others. Dr. Anderson will be responsible for cultivating this culture by providing curriculum, workshops, confidential and accessible mental health resources, and by partnering with colleagues across the University and affiliated health care systems to identify, develop, and implement novel strategies to improve the clinical teaching and learning environment. She will liaise with counseling and consultative services, develop and implement outreach programming to reduce mental health stigma, and increase help-seeking behaviors among medical students. She will work collaboratively with other members within the Office of Student Affairs, Office of Medical Education, and Office of Belonging, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as individuals across BioMed, the University, and affiliated health systems as needed.
Dr. Anderson’s office will be within the Student Affairs and Medical Education suites on the first floor of 222 Richmond Street.
